      Prado
On a recent trip to Madrid we spent a day visiting the Museo del Prado. I was already looking forward to seeing the greatest works of Velázquez but while there I discovered a few 19th century Spanish painters who were also pretty good.

A few months ago I was commissioned by Standard Chartered Bank to paint a series of four large portraits. One of the paintings will be sold at a private show held at the banks’ headquarters in London in November to benefit their charity Seeing is Believing.

The paintings are nearly finished, here’s a preview of my progress so far…

A new place in which to paint

      July 5th, 2011

My paintings have been getting bigger recently, gradually taking over our living room. So with great joy and much to the relief of my long suffering wife, I’ve been able to finally score a space in a shared studio in nearby Farm Road, Hove. I spent yesterday morning transferring my painting materials into the studio. Here’s a few photos of my new space…

      Academy Summer Exhibition 2011

      June 30th, 2011

Just had a trip up to London to check out this years Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy. Highlights for me were street scenes by Ken HowardPeter Brown and a painting of a street in Leamington Spa that I recognised by Michael Felmingham. Given the number or works on display there weren’t that many figure paintings, although I did enjoy a piece titled ‘Girl Ascending’ by Lisa Wright.

Last week I went along with my friend Scottish David to see James Hart Dyke’s show at Mount Street Galleries in Mayfair, the works were based on the year he spent with the British Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) as part of their 100 year anniversary.
